Devotion 8.12.17

So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless.
(Galatians 2:20–21).

Paul said right before these words that he was crucified with Christ (in other words, Paul’s sin was dealt with by Jesus on the cross.

But that is not the end of the story. When we embrace Christ as Savior we are not forgiven so we can sin and not worry about it. We are given the freedom to live a new life. Jesus set us free from the people we used to be. An unchanged Christian is a contradiction. Such a person “treats the grace of God as meaningless.” In other words, that person may profess belief; they may have said a prayer; but they have not truly embraced Christ as Savior and Lord.

Jesus is Savior and Lord. You cannot separate the two. When we come to Christ, we are new people and we start to live in a new way. If we don’t . . . we haven’t truly come to Christ.
